My Austin 7 Special

austinthumbIn the early nineteen sixties I bought what was the shell of an Austin 7 Special. After many trips to the scrap yard, carrying my mud guards, wind screens, and much else, home on the bus, and a good deal of work, there emerged a usable car. It never failed us, apart from the radiator boiling over from time to time, taken care of easily with water carried in the car in large jeroboam. It was used daily, and nightly. Conveyed us to Oxford for my first meeting with Robert Maxwell, a then once again top Oxford to take up my new job there. The car attracted quite some attention from the student population. Ultimately it was sold to a couple of eager students. The car now long gone I would imagine?
