My Earliest Memory: A WWII Air Raid When I Was 21 Months Old
On the night of June 1–2, 1941, 110 German aircraft bombed Manchester and Salford during the Blitz. The heavily industrial area of Lower Broughton, along with Higher Broughton and Pendleton, bore the brunt of the attack. The devastating assault resulted in an estimated 215 deaths and over 8,000 damaged homes in Salford.
