Rivers
During my childhood I was aware of only one river The Irwell. It was a turgid pollution capped waterway, though you could rarely the actual water, just a thick, yellow, off-white bubbling foam? I was eleven years when I actually saw an life supporting river, in Scotland, salmon in considerable numbers leaping a weir. Great days fishing The Wharf at Bolton Abby. The ten pound salmon I caught on The River Camel. So infinitely sad to read of the level of pollution that now strikes these and other notable rivers and lakes.
