'The Star' Restaurant Old Compton Street

comptonThe Star was at the Cambridge Circus/Old Compton Street end of Soho and was a very informal, inexpensive café rather than a glamorous restaurant. It was a regular meeting place for jazz and trad musicians, who would eat there, meet other players, arrange gigs and then head off to clubs. It was a particularly important in the 1950s and early 1960s Soho music scene. Musicians would meet at the Star to arrange engagements before going to play at clubs that evening.
