Blue Beat - The Afro Caribbean Social Club

I played trumpet with a Blue Beat band in a club located in Moss Side, Manchester called Reno's. Will also did a regular gig in a room above a Barclays Bank, 'The Afro Caribbean Social Club'. The floor, and presumably the joists where made of wood, it was an old building, maybe Victorian, not really designed to take the rhythmic stress of the pounding regular beat of many dancers. The floor and the bandstand moved up and down perceptibly. I often thought that one day the floor would collapse and we would end up in the banking hall below.
