Tolkien Lord of the Rings - Ralph Bakshi's Film

movie01The Lord of the Rings is Ralph Bakshi’s 1978 animated adaptation of Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings was release: November 15, 1978. A mixture of traditional animation and rotoscoping, giving the characters unusually realistic movement. It covers The Fellowship of the Ring and much of The Two Towers, ending before the story reaches its conclusion. The visual style Dark, psychedelic, impressionistic, and considerably more adult in tone than many animated fantasy films of its era.

Bakshi originally intended the film to be the first part of a two-film adaptation. However, the planned continuation was never produced. As a result, the 1978 film ends with Helm's Deep and the victory over Saruman, rather than completing Tolkien's story. Despite its limitations, the film had a major influence on later fantasy animation.
